When you have a high degree of self-trust, you can stop doubting yourself. You won't be able to stop yourself from chasing the things you desire to do and experience.

EFT Tapping for Self Doubt

WHAT IS SELF-DOUBT?

When faced with new or challenging situations, it's natural to feel doubtful. Self-doubt is defined as a feeling of insecurity about one or more parts of one's personality, such as confidence or likability.

It's something that we'll all go through at some point in our lives. When self-doubt becomes debilitating, though, we may require additional strategies to overcome it.

Self-doubt can be a debilitating and powerful voice that keeps you from achieving your goals.

It prevents you from making use of your opportunity.

It makes starting and finishing tasks more difficult than they need to be.

Sure, it can be useful at times, such as when you need to see your existing limitations or recognise a half-baked or terrible idea. However, it primarily holds you back in life.

“Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”

- william shakespeare

WHAT CAUSES SELF-DOUBT?

Self-doubt can come from many reasons such as low self-esteem, worthlessness, and judgement passed on by others or even from yourself.

Yes, while we can doubt ourselves based on  judgements we receive about our capabilities, the worst kind is self-doubt, limiting you from the greatness you deserve.

There are plenty of reasons behind self-doubt. Some of them are as follows:

Past experience and mistakes:

Past experiences can have a significant impact on how we react, particularly if you have had negative experiences in the past, such as being in an abusive relationship or getting fired without cause. In these situations, our mental health can be severely harmed. Our beliefs might be shaken and rattled by our past experiences. Continuing to allude to previous events without learning from them, on the other hand, is a waste of your successful future!

Childhood upbringing:

Our upbringing has a significant impact on the habits and personalities we develop. You may have already internalised the habit of questioning yourself if your parents continuously told you that you were not good enough. Or, if you attended a school where kids were frequently graded based on their academics.

Comparison with others:

Because we live in a competitive environment, it is natural for us to compare ourselves to others.

In the overwhelming world of social media, we can readily compare our work performance with colleagues or just with ourselves. It's easy to be envious of other people's life and believe that we aren't doing as well as they are.

New challenges:

This is a rather typical situation because we have no prior experience with how to react or what actions we should take.

Fear of failure or success:

Even among successful people, earlier success might become our greatest worry because we may believe that's all we're capable of and that we'll never be able to generate anything as good (1).

IS SELF-DOUBT AND LOW SELF-ESTEEM THE SAME THING?

Even if you are certain that you have the necessary knowledge and experience, you may still have doubts that you can or will succeed.

These doubts are sometimes confused with low self-esteem, but the two are different in terms of how they affect outcomes.

Self-doubt is a part of everyone's life, and it can range from a fleeting thought before making a decision to a paralysing force that prevents you from taking action.

Low self-esteem can be a serious side effect of excessive self-doubt. You're more likely to doubt your decision-making abilities and whether your instincts are correct if you don't hold yourself in high regard or keep a solid base of emotional resilience saved against how things might turn out if you don't hold yourself in high esteem.

Rather than being the same as poor self-esteem, self-doubt is a contributor to it.

Doubting yourself all the time, whether by comparing yourself to others or holding yourself to an idealistic and unattainable goal, is a surefire way to undermine your self-esteem, since you're not sticking to your conviction that you know what's best for you.

When those self-doubt demons come, building a stronger reservoir of self-esteem will aid you in combating them.

Practice telling yourself that you are the only one who knows what is best for you and ignoring negative voices that tell you otherwise.

Learn to trust that you're operating with your best interests at heart and that you're prepared to accept whatever repercussions may arise.

This will boost your self-esteem and work to silence the voices in your head that may question your every action (3).

WAYS TO OVERCOME SELF-DOUBT

So, now that you understand how important it is to trust yourself, the issue becomes, “How do I stop doubting myself and establish self-trust?”

What can you do to overcome self-doubt and be confident again, no matter how tough things are?

Here are few steps to overcome self doubt:

1.

Say "stop!" and ground yourself:

When you notice negative voices in your thoughts, try to stay in the present moment and concentrate on the positives.

Prepare something positive that you may turn to if you're feeling down or insecure. Here are some suggestions on what you can do:
  • A list of counter-arguments, such as "I can accomplish this" and "This is just another opportunity for me to learn."
  • A jar filled with good memories
  • A folder containing all of the photos that make you happy.

2.

Get a boost of optimism and take a break:

The longer we are stuck in a situation or mood, the more difficult it is to break out.

Take a few moments to relax and focus on something completely unrelated. It can help us cleanse our minds and see things from a new and different viewpoint by doing so.

Make a list of things you're grateful for if you need a boost of positivity. Your thoughts will automatically change in a more positive direction as a result of this.

3.

Don't be afraid to ask for assistance:

While it is critical to focus on oneself, it is also beneficial to enlist the help of loved ones, such as family and friends. Don't be afraid to seek assistance.

They could be your spouse, family, friends, mentors, bosses, or even a coach.

Getting guidance and support from others might help us feel more confident and driven.

4.

Don't fall into the comparison trap:

Self-doubt can rapidly seep in if you compare yourself to other people too much, to their triumphs, and especially to their highlight reels that they publish on social media.

Comparing yourself to yourself is a better approach to go about things. To see how far you've progressed. To see how far you've come.

5.

Consider a setback as a temporary setback:

When you experience a setback, you may begin to view the world through a negative and dark lens. You might think of this current setback as your new normal.

This sort of thinking can lead you to believe that there's no use in continuing to do something.

Instead, consider the following:

Remember: Just because you failed doesn't mean you're a failure.

6.

Win by celebrating that small step:

When you've completed one modest step ahead – such as creating your own website or running for the first time in months or years - you've achieved success.

Even if it's a minor victory, it's still a victory. As a result, rejoice.

Dinner should consist of a pleasant snack or your favourite food, time spent on a beloved hobby, or the purchase of something you've wanted for a long time.

This will re-energize and re-energize your motivation, making action more thrilling and enjoyable. And that will drive self-doubts aside, allowing you to keep going forward and achieve more modest and larger victories (2).

7.

Emotional Freedom Techniques:

EFT Tapping is a mind-body technique which helps to eliminate self doubt by discovering the root cause or the emotions and working on it. One method of finding out what is pulling you down, is by using Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT). EFT Tapping gets to the base of the fear, or whatever is holding you back, and removes it.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

I have gone through many moments of self-doubt, both in my personal and professional life.

There was a time I doubted every action and even more so every idea that would help me grow professionally, personally and even spiritually.

I realized with time that this feeling of self doubt only came in because I did not think I was worthy of love and success.

I had extremely low self esteem and self worth to the extent that I started judging every action, resulting in only more failures and even more judgments.

What was worse was I did not even know I was limiting myself with this subconscious behavior pattern.

Like always I turned to Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT) for help, once I knew what was stopping me.

For those new to EFT, it is also known as Tapping Therapy, which combines tapping on acupressure points while saying statements out loud to accept situations.

DOES EFT Tapping REALLY WORK FOR SELF-DOUBT?

The story starts with a session I held last year. The water ceased to flow, the toilets clogged, and the air conditioning system failed on the third day of the workshop, leaving us in unbearable heat for the rest of the day due to a damaged pipe in the region.

In these conditions, my afternoon session was less than ideal, and despite great feedback from participants and assurance from my dear friend David Lake, I felt dreadful afterward.

That night, I travelled home feeling down on myself and rather unpleasant.

I made the decision that I needed to work on this problem. So I tapped primarily on the meridian point on the side of my eye that works best for me. I also conducted a few rounds of just touching and stroking the points, as well as envisioning the tapping.

When I started putting the statements together, I smiled to myself. I began to overstate both the severity of the problem statements and the implications they would have in my life as I moved through them.

I proceeded to exaggerate until I was able to gain some perspective. One thing I've realised is that the journey to self-acceptance is never-ending.

However, each time an incident or issue like this has brought my own negative self-assessment to a head, the tapping I've done on that issue has brought me closer to such experiences, which Gary Craig referred to as "God moments" in his Flagstaff workshop.

- Steve Wells (4)

In closing, while self-doubts can be limiting, you can let go of them with simple tapping exercises. Get to the root of your self-doubt with EFT Tapping and eliminate your limitations.

It's natural to have doubts, but you must understand that becoming trapped and panicked for too long will not help you.

Try to escape out of the cycle as soon as possible and focus on self-improvement. You don't have to let self-doubt keep you back.

Be limitless!

Love,

Donita
