How To Heal Thyroid With The Help Of EFT Tapping?

Heal Thyroid with Emotional Freedom Techniques

EFT tapping for thyroid

In this article, you will be knowing about Thyroid in detail: its types, symptoms, and how you can heal the same with the help of EFT Tapping.

One evening, I crossed paths with my old school teacher. I found her exercising on the footpath. I was happy seeing her and couldn't resist asking why she was doing rigorous physical exercises at that age.

She informed me how she is suffering from thyroid and that these exercises help her keep her weight in check.

Until a year ago, I didn't pay heed to this incident. At a wedding ceremony, a lady approached me. As she started talking, I realized that she knew me very well.

I tried hard to recognize her only to get caught red-handed. She gently placed her hands on my shoulders and said, “Relax! It’s not your fault. We are meeting after what seems like ages and I have put on enough weight, let alone you, for anyone to recognize me.” And we laughed it off.

She soon revealed the reason behind putting on weight being Hypothyroid. As a result, she got obese.

There, I had seen the symptoms of this disease very closely. Slowly, I got to know more about the symptoms and the damage this disease is capable of bringing to the body.

This is precisely what Shweta Gambhir, an HR Professional, was suffering from.

She was diagnosed with thyroid over a decade ago and had a throbbing pain in her neck and wrists, swelling in her legs, and gained a lot of weight.

She decided to try EFT Tapping to help control the symptoms. After a few sessions of tapping, she felt the pain in her neck, wrist and the swelling in her legs go away.

This improvement gave her the hope to try and resolve the root cause of her thyroid.

Are you, as well, looking for a treatment that works at the root cause?  Let's dive deep into the disease and crack the code for relief.

Thyroid and EFT Tapping

What is Thyroid?

Do you know thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands in our body?

The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck below Adam's apple and is a butterfly-shaped structure that weighs less than an ounce and produces less than a teaspoonful of hormones each year.

The main function of the thyroid gland is to secrete two hormones, Triiodothyronine (T3) hormone and the Thyroxine hormone (T4).

Both T3 and T4 hormones play a very significant role and affect almost every tissue in the body.

The thyroid gland is dependent on the hypothalamus (a part of the brain that is responsible for the production of hormones) and the pituitary gland, a pea-sized gland situated at the base of the skull.

The hypothalamus releases something called thyrotropin, which then triggers the pituitary gland to produce the Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH). The TSH then helps the thyroid gland to release T4 and T3.

The thyroid hormones play an important role and have a significant impact as the body’s “accelerator".

It controls the proper functioning of all internal processes like brain development, muscle control and bone health, metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and many other aspects such as temperature regulation, energy levels, weight, hair, nail growth and more (1).

I have to be cautious, have my thyroid levels checked, and as long as I do that, I'm fine.

TYPES OF THYROID DISEASES

When the thyroid gland does not function properly, it leads to thyroid diseases. An over-or under-functioning of the thyroid gland may lead to too much or too little production of thyroid hormones, causing thyroid diseases.

Thyroid diseases are common problem, especially in women, but men are not untouched by this disease. Often the tendency for thyroid imbalance runs in families.

The types of thyroid disease are:

1. Hyperthyroidism: This is a thyroid disease in which the patient’s thyroid gland produces excess thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. It can be caused by a number of problems, including Graves' disease, Plummer's disease and Thyroiditis.

Graves' disease is an autoimmune illness in which antibodies produced by the immune system stimulate the thyroid to produce too much T4.

Plummer's disease occurs when one or more adenomas of the thyroid produce T4 excessively. An adenoma is a part of the thyroid gland that has walled itself off from the rest of the gland, forming lumps that may cause an enlargement of the thyroid.

In case of women, sometimes, thyroid gland can become inflamed after pregnancy. The inflammation can cause a leakage of the excess thyroid hormone stored in the gland into your bloodstream. This is called Thyroditis.

Symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism can include:

Complications of Hyperthyroidism:

  • Heart Problem
  • Eye Problem
  • Brittle Bones
  • Red swollen skin
  • Thyrotoxicosis

2. Hypothyroidism: This is another form of thyroid disease where thyroid gland is found producing an insufficient amount of thyroid hormone. It is important to note that Hypothyroidism can also develop from problems within the thyroid gland, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism usually relate to increased metabolism. It also includes:

  • Poor concentration
  • Inability to think clearly
  • Fatigue and lethargy (8)
  • Dry skin and hairs (9)
  • Brittle nails
  • Constipation (10)
  • Feeling cold (11)
  • Fluid retention
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Depression (12)
  • Prolonged or excessive menstrual bleeding in women
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Slow heart rate
  • Weight gain
  • Delayed puberty or slow growth

Complications of Hypothyroidism:

  • Goitre
  • Heart problem
  • Mental Health issues
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Myxoedema
  • Infertility
  •  Birth defects

After diabetes, thyroid disease is the most common glandular disease, usually hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

However, because symptoms are often mistaken for excess stress, depression, signs of ageing, or are simply ignored, many cases of thyroid imbalance – up to 8 million – are not identified.

By age 60, 17-20% of women and 9-10% of men have signs of thyroid dysfunction.

TREATMENT FOR THYROID

On a physical aspect, thyroid or any other diseases are mainly caused by our lifestyle habits. Our sedentary life and our food habits have a major impact on our health.

When we focus on consumption of food all day long, and that too unhealthy stuff, our body find it difficult to digest it all properly. This undigested waste gets stuck on the walls of our intestine, from where it is released into our bloodstream.

This waste then reaches all our organs through our blood, and when it affects the thyroid gland, thyroid diseases develop.

Taking medications can help you to manage the disease by not letting it deteriorate, and keeping it stable.

How to keep thyroid in check

But changing your lifestyle habits, can actually help you to cure this disease. Here are a few tips we would suggest to cure your thyroid disease:

  • Eating wholesome, organic, and plant-based food is the best medicine for curing any disease. Avoid eating processed foods, and consume more and more seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet. This will not only help in healing, but also take care of other thyroid symptoms like hair fall, and skin problems.
  • Try intermittent fasting. Fasting is the best way to detox your body and give it the time it needs to heal itself of any illnesses. Eat your dinner a little early and then have breakfast the next morning by keeping a 16-hour gap. This will also help to keep in control other symptoms of thyroid like weight gain.
  • Drink enough water throughout the day. Take a glass of warm water in the morning to allow for smooth cleansing of the toxins from the body.
  • Indulge in some physical exercise everyday. Yoga, Swimming, Cycling, Gym workouts, anything that you prefer. Moving our body causes proper blood circulation and thereby leads to better removal of toxins.

Following these things with patience and consistency will surely benefit you in not only curing thyroid but any other diseases.

Does thyroid only have a physical origin?

Prima face, if we look at the disease label Thyroid, it is due to hormonal imbalance. If we look at it from the emotional corner, we find that this Thyroid Imbalance is one of the consequences of suppressing your emotions.

Since our birth, due to many reasons (cultural, professional, environmental, or personal), we tend to bury our emotions. We don’t express them freely and clearly. Most of the time, we are not even aware of the negative emotions which are constantly created in our minds, and hence we ignore them.

These negative unobserved, untreated, and unexpressed emotions pent up in the body. Over the period, the body stores these negative emotions and these emotions hold different diseases in the body.

We talk a lot in our regular conversation to make things happen in our daily routine, but how much do we express ourselves? How much we do communicate our feelings?

Physical Origin of Thyroid

The renowned American author and teacher, Louise Hay has shared the root cause of Thyroid diseases, in her book, 'Heal Your Body'.

According to her, Hyperthyroidism is caused because of rage or resentment at being left out, and Hypothyroidism is caused by feeling hopelessly stifled and suffocated.

Take a moment to check yourself. Are you having such feelings about anything or anyone in your life?

From a spiritual viewpoint, Thyroid is caused due to blockage in the throat chakra. (Throat chakra is connected to your ability to communicate and speak your inner truth.)

It plays an important role in communication and self-expression. When there is an imbalance or blockage in this chakra, you may feel:

  • Fearful speaking your personal truth
  • Have a harder time speaking your truth
  • Feel anxious about speaking or communicating.

In addition, you may experience outbursts of emotions or even the opposite- extreme quietude or refusal to speak.

How Does EFT tapping help in healing thyroid?

While all of our physical pain can be solved or helped with the consumption of various medically prescribed drugs and usage of therapies, we must also keep in mind that those techniques not only may provide temporary relief, but may also be harmful for us in the long run.

In order to avoid a situation of this sort, and to address the issue from its root cause, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) happens to be a very powerful alternative healing therapy to heal any sort of physical or mental pain that people usually experience.

It is a combination of the ancient science of acupressure and modern psychology and works on the principle that your physical problems are actually manifestations of underlying emotional issues.

The basic theory behind EFT is that all negative emotions and behaviors, and many of the physical discomforts that they cause, are the result of disruptions to our body’s energy system.

As you read above, the root cause of thyroid is the suppression of emotions and not being able to express your authenticity. These stuck emotions disrupt energy in the meridians in our bodies. EFT works on these pent-up negative emotions and feelings.

EFT helps in revealing these emotions that are buried for a long period and also helps in releasing them by tapping on the acupuncture points along with acknowledging the problem.

This is a very simple technique that works on the principle of clearing negative emotions and liberating body and mind.

Heal Thyroid with EFT Tapping

I used EFT to heal myself from not only thyroid, but cancer as well. I was disturbed with the visible symptoms of thyroid. I experienced weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, and tiredness.

It was later during my attempt to heal herself through EFT that I discovered the cause of my thyroid. It was an incident of sexual abuse that I had faced when I was just 18.

Just like any other Indian family, talking about such things was considered taboo in my family, so could never speak up or share this with anyone. This suppression of emotions and inability to express became the cause of my diseases.

One of our participants, Apoorva Pandit, a therapist from India, chose EFT Tapping to treat her Thyroid Imbalance.

This is what she shared with us, "I started tapping- starting from surface issues, persisting through what came up. After a few weeks, I noticed that the symptoms of Thyroid had come down. A medical examination confirmed that I was free."

Shweta Gambhir, an HR leader, also healed some symptoms of thyroid with EFT. She shared, “Every day when I used to get up, I used to have a throbbing pain in my neck and my wrist and of course swelling in the leg which is a common symptom of thyroid. Thankfully in the last three days, the same is not there and I feel so much comfortable."

EFT TAPPING FOR HEALING THYROID

Thyroid quote

Apart from exercise and a nutritious, balanced diet, practicing the following EFT Tapping steps would help you to heal any complications of Thyroid hormone imbalance.

If you are a patient yourself, or healing a client, use the following steps:

Step 1:

First Use EFT Tapping On What It Feels Like To have a thyroid issue

Explore the physical sensations in the body associated with thyroid and use the physical tension tapping process to reduce the sensations.

Then use the EFT Tapping Points Process taught in detail during EFT Practitioner Training Online.

1.

To get started, begin by investigating the physical nature of thyroid disease

Connect with the symptoms and notice where you feel it in the body.

Briefly, you can begin by asking yourself the following questions to explore further:

  • What symptoms do you experience?
  • Where in the body do you experience the symptoms?
  • What is the colour, texture, size, shape of the symptoms in the body?
  • What are the sensations like? For example rough or smooth.

2.

Then measure the level of symptoms by asking

"What number are the symptoms at, where 10 is really high and 1 is not high at all." Just go with whatever comes up spontaneously, without thinking too much about it.

3.

Begin by Tapping on the Karate Chop or Side of the Hand EFT Tapping Points:

"Even though I feel [say the name of the symptoms you are experiencing, eg. weight gain, hairfall etc.] and I feel it in my [part of the body where there are symptoms] and its at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."

(Repeat 3 times).

4.

Then Tap on the facial and upper body EFT Tapping Points using these phrases:

  • Eyebrow: This (name of the symptom)...
  • side Of the Eye: So painful...
  • Under the eye: Pain in my (part of the body)..
  • Under the nose: It's a red colour...
  • Chin: At a number 6...
  • Collarbone: So rough...
  • Under the arm: This (name of the symptom)...
  • Thumb: I feel it in my (part of the body)...
  • Index Finger: So painful...
  • Middle Finger: Really painful...
  • Little Finger: The colour red...

5.

Close the sequence by coming back to the EFT Karate Chop Tapping Points and repeat once:

"Even though I feel [say the name of the symptoms you are experiencing, eg. weight gain, hairfall etc.] and I feel it my [part of the body where there are symptoms] and it's at a number 6 and it's red in colour and it feels rough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."

6.

Relax:

Take a gentle breath in and out and take a sip of water.

7.

Test:

At the end of the EFT Tapping , you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • What number are the symptoms are at now?
  • What happened?
  • How does it make you feel?

You can repeat this process by going back to Step 1 if you feel like the number could come down a little more.

Step 2:

Then Discover Past Experiences Of Feeling the symptoms And Clear Them

Explore memories related to the physical tension.

To uncover the memories linked to the symptoms of thyroid disease, you can ask questions like:

  • When have you felt these symptoms before?
  • What do these symptoms remind you of?
  • When did the symptoms start? What happened?
  • Was there ever a time when you did not experience these symptoms?
  • What can trigger and bring on the symptoms?

Identify past events linked to the feeling of these symptoms and resolve it with the help of tapping therapy.

You can ask the following questions:

  • When have you felt the symptoms before?
  • What happens to trigger the symptoms?
  • Who or what triggers the feeling of symptoms?

These questions will identify your past experiences associated with the pain.

Step 3:

Explore themes of inability to express, communicate, speak up, or be in alignment with self

As one of the main causes of thyroid is the inability to truly express yourself, think about any past memories and present situations in your life where you want to say or do something different but you can't.

What is it that is stopping you from speaking up? What is it that is not allowing you to follow your heart?

As you uncover them, follow the above mentioned steps of tapping for these emotions.

For example, "Even though I am not able to (say the thing you are unable to express or tell), and I feel (state how you feel because of that), I deeply and completely accept and love myself."

Follow the tapping sequence after this.

Step 4:

Close With Positive EFT Tapping to heal Thyroid:

Examples of a positive tapping sequence might be:

  • “Even though I have thyroid issue, now, I am open to feeling healthy and disease-free.”
  • “Even though I was living with this disease for many years/months, now, I open myself to the possibility of being free from diseases."

You too can release yourself from pain through EFT Tapping, like Apoorva and Shweta did.

Would like to learn how to use the EFT technique to help yourself or your loved ones?

While a diagnosis can be scary, EFT can empower you to be able to deal with it effectively and keep your physical, mental, as well as emotional health in check.

Do not let a disease overpower you. Make the choice of fighting back and winning it over.
