What is PTSD?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition or a psychiatric disorder in people that is triggered by a terrifying event - either the people are experiencing the event or witnessing it.

Most of the people go through traumatic events in their life and they find it very difficult to adjust and cope with the problem but with good self care they usually get better. But if the symptoms get worse and they affect your daily chores severely, you might have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The symptoms of PTSD includes:

  • Anxiety
  • Uncontrollable Thoughts
  • Nightmares
  • Unwanted memories
  • Flashback of the traumatic event
  • Severe emotional distress

It is normal to feel scary experiencing and witnessing a traumatic situation. There are various avoidance symptoms. These include:

  • Staying away from places, events or objects that reminds you of the traumatic event
  • Avoiding thoughts or feelings related to the traumatic event.
